Vitamin D far better than vaccines at preventing Influenza. Fights Cancer, MS and Diabetes.

An essential nutrient for bone and immune system health, along with psychological well-being, vitamin D3 is synthesized through the skin. Vitamin D3 deficiencies are associated with numerous serious health conditions such as: cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and depression.

What is the Difference between Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3?

The two forms of vitamin D available as supplements are ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). Fungi, plants and invertebrate animals make ergocalciferol. Cholecalciferol is produced in the skin of vertebrate animals, including humans. There is only a slight difference in molecular structure between these two compounds. Still, that small difference has a significant impact on biological activity.

In humans, vitamin D3 is much more effective, and safer, than vitamin D2. Therefore, if you supplement, be sure that you are taking vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol.

Research into methods of preventing or reversing the damaging effects on the brain caused by Alzheimer's disease is heating up -- namely with a common spice, turmeric (Kurkuma), and something so simple, the sun.

A new study by UCLA scientists and colleagues from UC Riverside and
the Human BioMolecular Research Institute, cited in the July issue of the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, reports findings suggesting the possibility that:
Vitamin D3 and curcumin might possibly not only prevent, but may help REVERS damage done by the typical plaques and tangles which are characteristics of Alzheimer's disease.

A clinical trial led by Mitsuyoshi Urashima and conducted by the Division of Molecular Epidemiology in the the Department of Pediatrics at the
Jikei University School of Medicine Minato-ku in Tokyo found that:
vitamin D was extremely effective at halting influenza infections in children.
The trial appears in the March, 2010 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
(Am J Clin Nutr (March 10, 2010).

VITAMIN D:

Maintains Your Calcium Balance

Maintenance of blood calcium levels within a narrow range is vital for normal functioning of the nervous system, as well as for bone growth, and maintenance of bone density. Vitamin D is essential for the efficient utilization of calcium by the body.

Aids Your Cell Differentiation

Cellular differentiation results in the specialization of cells for specific functions in your body. In general, differentiation of cells leads to a decrease in proliferation. While cellular proliferation is essential for growth and wound healing, uncontrolled proliferation of cells with certain mutations may lead to diseases like cancer. The active form of vitamin D, inhibits proliferation and stimulates the differentiation of cells.

Boosts Your Immunity

Active vitamin D is a potent immune system modulator. There is plenty of scientific evidence that vitamin D has several different effects on immune system function that may enhance your immunity and inhibit the development of autoimmunity. Several studies conducted in this regard have shown that this vitamin can enhance the immune functions, and may prove effective in preventing the development of autoimmune disorders. This vitamin can help to treat inflammatory diseases as well.

Has a Role in Insulin Secretion

The active form of vitamin D plays a role in insulin secretion under conditions of increased insulin demand. Limited data in humans suggests that insufficient vitamin D levels may have an adverse effect on insulin secretion and glucose tolerance in type 2 diabetes.

Blood Pressure Regulation

Adequate vitamin D levels may be important for decreasing the risk of high blood pressure. Again, more studies on vitamin D and hypertension are necessary.

Benefits for Depression
The relationship between vitamin D3 and depression is not very clear, though one study has reported that this vitamin deficiency may raise the risk of depression in both men and women.

Skin Benefits
Vitamin D3 is known to possess anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, it can prove helpful in controlling inflammatory skin conditions like, psoriasis. It can also promote wound healing, reduce itching and may help to alleviate skin lesions caused by conditions like, lichen planus and photodermatitis. It can help to rejuvenate the skin as well.

All together,

What can high-vitamin D foods do for you?

  • Help optimize calcium metabolism
  • Help optimize phosphorus metabolism
  • Help prevent type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, heart attack, congestive heart failure, and stroke
  • Help prevent falls and muscle weakness
  • Help prevent osteoporosis while maintaining bone integrity
  • Help regulate insulin activity and blood sugar balance
  • Help regulate immune system responses
  • Help regulate muscle composition and muscle function
  • Help regulate blood pressure
  • Lower risk of excessive inflammation
  • Lower risk of some bacterial infections
  • Support cognitive function, especially in older persons
  • Support mood stability, especially in older persons
  • Help prevent chronic fatigue
  • Help prevent the following types of cancer: bladder, breast, colon, ovarian, prostate and rectal

What events can indicate a need for more foods rich in vitamin D?

  • Muscle aches and muscle weakness
  • Frequent falls, particularly among older persons
  • Bone pain, frequent bone fractures, or soft bones
  • Stunted growth in children
  • Asthma in children (especially severe asthma)
  • Impaired cognitive function, especially among older persons
  • Lowered immunity
  • Chronic low energy and fatigue
  • Depression, particularly among older persons
  • Presence of any autoimmune disorder
  • Lack of exposure to sunlight for any reason, including geography, use of sunscreen, or wearing of protective clothing
Concentrated food sources of vitamin D include salmon, sardines, shrimp, milk, cod liver (levertraan), and eggs. Among salmon, wild-caught fish have been shown to average significantly more vitamin D than non-organically farmed fish.

Cod liver oil contains certain "fatty acids" that prevent the blood from clotting easily. These fatty acids also reduce pain and swelling. Cod liveroil can be obtained from eating fresh cod liver or by taking supplements. Norwegian cod liver oil has traditionally been one of the most popular natural sources of Vitamins A & D. Cod liver oil also contains the Omega 3 Fatty Acids known as EPA and DHA, which may be valuable in the maintenance of a healthy heart and circulation. Cod Liver Oil products include capsule and liquid forms.

Vitamin D3 promotes calcium's absorption and functions for teen's and children's
healthy teeth and bones, prevents loss of bone mass, and treats bone disorders.

It protects against adult and elderly
muscle weakness and immune system issues,
and lowers the risk of colon, breast, and prostate cancers, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis

Vitamin D3 prevents/treats
Rickets, post menopausal osteoporosis, hypoglycemia, Multiple Sclerosis and Diabetes.

Benefits of vitamin D3 in 'the elderly and fractures' are still under investigation. An analysis, reported in August 2007 by the University of Ottawa Evidence-based Practice Center, showed higher doses of vitamin D3 of between 700-800 IU's per day combined with calcium help prevent hip fractures for institutionalized elderly.
