How many times have you been hit with the usual jargon about how bad marijuana is for the brain, and how stupid you are going to become if you smoke it.
Yet, some of the most creative minds of our time attribute their unconventional thinking to the effects of this beautiful herb. So does it make you stupid, or does it actually INCREASE innovation?
Well according to a study conducted by the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, the effects of marijuana on the brain are everything but detrimental. Let me explain.
Professor Xia Zhang and some of his colleagues at Saskatchewan University decided to test a synthetic form of THC (HU210) on a group of test rats to observe the effects the drug has on neurogenesis (brain cell formation and generation). They gave these rats HIGH DOSES of the THC-like compound twice a day, everyday for a period of ten days to get a good idea of THC’s effects on brain cells.
It turns out, this synthetic THC-like compound actually INCREASED the rate of brain cell formation in the hippocampus (neurogenesis) by a whopping 40 PERCENT!
Not only did the rate of brain cell formation INCREASE, but the rats also appeared to be less susceptible to observable symptoms of anxiety and depression. The hippocampus is the area of a mammals brain that controls memory, learning, anxiety and depression. So it makes sense that increased brain cell formation in this area of the brain would prove to be beneficial for people suffering from problems associated with these brain functions.
Meanwhile, when you compare these POSITIVE neurological effects of marijuana with the neurological effects of other LEGAL recreational drugs such as nicotine and alcohol, you find that nicotine and alcohol actually DECREASE brain cell formation.
As an activist for legalizing marijuana, it is becoming a bit infuriating to see that such break-through discoveries are being ignored by the medical and legislative communities! Especially when you consider the countless detrimental effects of cigarettes and alcohol, which are sold freely in every store you can find.
This discovery actually explains why some of the most creative minds of our time have attributed their innovation to the effects of marijuana. With every new brain cell that is formed, comes the possibility of a new and interesting thought process, that can break the boundaries of what an individual was previously capable of.
The universities’ findings on the anti-anxiety qualities of THC also explain the peaceful nature of marijuana smokers, and now it is not so hard to understand why marijuana smokers have a “no worries” kind of outlook on life.
Now take a moment to think about how wonderful this plant really is! It is capable of providing clothing (hemp is the strongest fiber in the world), it provides nutrition (cannabis seeds contain the most concentrated nutrients found in any food)! It’s “main ingredient” THC has even been proven to be anti-carcinogenic, eliminating lymphatic tumors in test rats within two weeks.
On top of all of these wonderful benefits, it has now been SCIENTIFICALLY CONFIRMED that it indeed does increase creativity, reduce depression and anxiety, and promote peace.
In traditional Indian medicine, Kurkuma, (aka Curcuma, Kunyit or Turmeric) has been used for thousands of years as an antiseptic and pain reducing agent.
aka Kunyit, Yellow-root or Geelwortel.
Worldwide, the use of Turmeric is said to have healing properties for brain related diseases such as Alzheimer and Parkinson ( hardly found in India). The beneficial properties of Turmeric are also being investigated by Cancer Research Institutes.
Kanker
(mondholte, slokdarm, maag, duodenum, colon, rectum), prostaat, long,
It has been shown before that curcuma/kurkuma or turmeric is good for losing weight and it’s beneficial for your memory. Now it is supposed that curcuma also has the power to kill cancer cells. Scientists of the Cork Cancer Research Center in Ireland have discovered that the Indian yellowroot is capable of breaking down cancer cells. The team under the lead of Sharon McKenna found that cancer cells started to die 24 hours after they had come into contact with curcuma. Furthermore it was shown that cancer cells started to dissolve themselves after this. Previous studies have shown that curcuma reduces the growth of fat cells, making you gain less weight. Other scientific research has shown that curcuma also protects against dementia as well. All studies were laboratory studies. Further research needs to shown if curcuma has the same beneficial effects in humans. However, my personal experience with Kurkuma to treat skincancer are positive. A spot on my back, just between the shoulderblades, over 3 inches in diameter, allmost disappeared within 2 weeks after using the powder....( direct contact by rubbing it on the skin). Almost on a daily base I add kurkuma, cayenne and ginger to my meals for about a month now. My skin seems to be juveniled, little wraths on my hands are gone...

Black Turmeric is a herb with bluish-black rhizome,
native to North-East and Central India. The leaves have a deep violet-red patch which runs through the length of the lamina. Usually, the upper side of the leaf is rough, velvety, but this character may vary. Flowering bracts are green with a ferruginous (iron) tinge. Flower petals may be deep pink or red in color. The rhizome is bitter, hot taste with pungent smell. Black Turmeric is used in Tantrik Sadhana. The dried leaves are used as a source for fuel. Northern tribes use Black Turmeric as a talisman to keep the evil spirits away. Presently Black Turmeric is on the verge of extinction due to unfavorable climatic changes, deforestration, soil erosion and bio-piracy

An old friend from the past is no more. Nick Nicholson died in a hospital in Manila last night, august 11 at 10.30 pm. He suffered successive heart attacks last month, this combined with his diabetes and a stroke that left him partially unable made it an unfair struggle he couldn't win. It's over 26 years ago we met for the first time on the filmset. As an old Vietnam veteran he was involved in many action films about the Nam war, like Apocalypse Now, Platoon and Born on the 4th of July, but was also active in local productions by Cirio Santiago and Bobbie Suarez. He left an impressive filmography. The movies were his passion and he never stopped writing about his experiences on and around the filmset, I hope the book he was creating (though not finished yet), will face the bookstores. He had so many great stories... It was a turbulent last year for Nick, with ups and, a lot more downs... It will be tough times for his wife Annie who stood by his side till the end, still she found time to up-date me about Nick's situation. It will never be the same...! My thoughts are with you my dear. Nick, rest in peace.
Cucumber is a vegetable that belongs to the same family as pumpkins, zucchinis and other squashes. It has a dark green skin, which reveals whitish or very light green flesh, when peeled. There are basically two types of cucumbers - the pickling varieties and the slicing varieties. Of these, the pickling variety is relatively small, around 2 - 4 inches long. Most of us know that cucumbers have cooling properties and are extremely good for bringing relief to the eyes in summers. However, they are associated with a number of other health and nutrition benefits too. To know about them, read on.
Raw cucumber, when applied on the skin, can help reduce heat and inflammation.
The diuretic, cooling and cleansing property of cucumber makes it good for skin.
Fresh cucumber juice can provide relief from heartburn, acid stomach, gastritis and even ulcer.
Placing a cucumber slice over the eyes not only soothes them, but also reduces swelling.
Daily consumption of cucumber juice helps control cases of eczema, arthritis and gout.
Cucumber has been found to be beneficial for those suffering from lung, stomach and chest problems.
The potassium in cucumber makes it useful for the problem of high and low blood pressure.
Cucumber contains Erepsin, the enzyme that helps in protein digestion.
Cucumber juice is said to promote hair growth, especially when it is added to the juice of carrot, lettuce and spinach.
Cucumber juice, when mixed with carrot juice, is said to be good for rheumatic conditions caused by excessive uric acid in the body.
Cucumber can prove to be beneficial for those suffering from diseases of the teeth and gums, especially in cases of pyorrhea.
Being rich in minerals, cucumber helps prevent splitting of nails of the fingers and toes.
Cucumber has been associated with healing properties in relation to diseases of the kidney, urinary bladder, liver and pancreas.
Those suffering from diabetes have been found to benefit from the consumption of cucumber/cucumber juice.

Once I heard the expression: What you eat is what you are..!
And actually that's true, our food forms the bricks that build our body, and when those bricks are built of inferior material a weak building will be the result..
Professor Jane Plant is an eminent geologist. In 1987, aged 42, she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time. Five years later the cancer returned and for 4 more times – and, as she explains in her book Your Life in Your Hands, this was “despite a radical mastectomy 3 further operations, 35 radiotherapy treatments, several chemotherapy treatments and irradiation of my ovaries to induce the menopause”.
The doctors gave her three months to live.
Jane explained – in very unscientific terms – how it is that she has been cancer-free since 1992. At the time she discovered the last cancerous lump in her neck, colleagues in China – where she had worked – happened to send her an atlas detailing the different cancers found across that country.
. Looking at it, she realised that breast cancer (and prostate cancer) were virtually unknown throughout China at that time – one death in 100,000 women, as opposed to one in 10 in some western countries.
Why should that be?
The answer had to be found in the diet of the Chinese – no dairy food. Her diet became totally dairy-free but full of food containing cancer protective ingredients; she was careful to reduce her intake of hormones and chemicals from food; and altogether changed her lifestyle.
The large cancerous lump in her neck disappeared within five weeks and no cancerhas ever returned.
Her “day-job” as a scientist gave her the ability to research the components of the food we eat, particularly discovering that milk proteins find their way into a good many products; to analyse the nutrients required to help the body withstand treatment and stay cancer-free; to understand the effects of chemicals used in food processing etc, etc. Hence, the Plant Programme (www.JanePlant.com) was born and, using it alongside conventional medicine, Jane has helped innumerable women and men to combat breast and prostate cancers – often not just stopping the cancer but reversing the disease’s path into secondaries and preventing it from returning. Her book Eating for Better Health has just been published and the information about food, the scientific evidence to support it, and the case studies in Your Life in Your Hands make compelling reading. Rather than using the word “cancer”, Jane prefers the description “cells behaving badly”. I would agree with her. The word “cancer” definitely carries the connotation of pain and death and is, therefore, a terrifying word. One fascinating fact is that Jane is not the least bit surprised that Megrahi – the Libyan bomber recently returned to his country because he was suffering from prostate cancer and had only months left to live – is still very much alive. She predicted that, once Megrahi was not eating the Scottish prison diet but was back on more Mediterranean-style food, he would do much better. She has been proved to be correct. For over 40 years already I've been interested in non-regular ways of healing. I've visited several continents and spent some years in Asia to learn more about martial arts and oriental healing. This blog is a collection of medical tips and advises, a guide to a healthier life, new and odd things. I also like to share some of my activities on the movie-sets during the 80's. And of course: the Raven's history..
