A Dangerous Life.

Ruben Rustia as Ferdinand Marcos in "A Dangerous Life"

I did a lot of shooting in the movies, most of the time with guns. But this time it was a camera. I play one of the reporters during the revolution in the Philippines. The People Power Revolution, Gary Busy does the lead in this TV documentary that takes about 8 hours to view...

Working title: The 4 day Revolution, but released as: A Dangerous Life.
This movie was special to me  'cause I was on the spot of  action at the time it's referring to...in the middle of the Revolution, that is: 1986.  Then I followed the news on TV and didn't go to Manila anymore, hell no. I stayed in the province..!!!. It was an exciting period, with lots of action, millions of people in the streets and speeches from mr. president: Ferdinand Marcos live on TV.. Oh, he was a master in speeches and did so for hours, all by heart. It was fascinating to hear him speak but it was also obvious he'd lost support from the pinoy people.

I remember the commelec farce, the hilarious vote-counting and the protesting people on EDSA. ( Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue). Tanks at camp Aguinaldo, tanks in the streets. But hardly any bloodshed.. Henry Strzalkowski told me recently he had to duck and run to prevent to get hit by (stray) bullets.

 Henry Strzalkowski:

"I and some close friends got a full adult dose when on the third day, Marcos loyalist troops opened fire on us from the Channel 9 tower. A young teen was struck by M16 fire just a few feet from me, and I and my friend Steve Rogers rushed him to a jeepney and tried to get him to East Avenue Medical Center emergency. He bled out in my arms. It was a time I won't soon forget."

Until the last minute the cameras were rolling at Malacañang Palace, Marcos tried to convince the nation, but he couldn't anymore. He was too ill. The helicopter took off for Hawaii, loaded with gold bars, no room for Imelda's shoes...! A house wife became president...Corry Aquino.
It was suppose to be a turn in history, but not much really changed.

The shooting of this movie was like a 'deja vu'.  Just the bullets weren't real......(Some shots were taken  in other Asian countries, even Australia.)

It was an outstanding cast to work with, Gary turned out to be a great guy with sence of humor, I liked him.
The lead actress who also played a foreign correspondent and girlfriend of Bussey was Rebecca Gilling, an Australian who was known for her role as a protagonist who was thought to have been killed by a crocodile who came back with a vengeance in “Return to Eden”.  As correspondents in the movie, they were able to dramatize the historical events that happened between 1983 up to 1986 and interacted with the characters who were based on real people. They were able to find leads with the help of their contact with the U.S. Embassy who sometimes helped them when they were caught in dangerous situations. Many risks are encountered by foreign correspondents then and now where ever in the world.
It's only a small part for me in this movie. I'm a press photographer like a dozen others and we follow the scene, shouting and shooting our cameras. Trying to get as close as we can...

Grape seed extract kills cancer cells...

Nature's Way Grape Seed Ext Standardzd - 30 countAn extract from grape seeds can kill cancer cells. This is the result of a research done at the University of Kentucky.
“Within 24 hours 76 percent of the leukemia cells had died, while the healthy cells were not effected at all”, reports the scientific magazine Clinical Cancer Research.
It has been known for a longer time that antioxidants in grape seeds fight cancer, but this is the first time that their effects on leukemia were measured.
The researchers saw the the grape seed extract activated a protein that regulates apoptosis. Apoptosis or the programmed death of cells is a natural way to kill damaged or dangerous cells.
This study can possibly lead to new ways of treating cancer, but scientists say that it is still too early to recommend eating grapes as a way of preventing cancer.
“Although it is very interresting, there is still a long way to go before this can be used as a cancer treatment, says cancer specialist Kat Arney.

Better don't chew the seeds from your grapes, they're bitter and it irritates you're gums..

The healing power of : Ginger.

Rhizoma Zingiberis, Gingembre,Ingwer,건강,अदरख, 生薑, 生姜,  생강.,
There is a wide range of benefits of ginger such as:
Nausea caused during pregnancy or by travelling. Calms an upset stomach and promotes the flow of bile.
Stomach cramps
can be eased and circulation can also be improved. Ginger supports a healthy cardiovascular system by making platelets less sticky which in turn reduces circulatory problems.
Ginger oil used for massage can help
relieve painful arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Ginger is often included in many herbal decongestants and can help to
minimise the symptoms of respiratory conditions, colds and allergies,
and:....
Ovarian Cancer .!!!!
Ginger may be powerful weapon in the treatment of ovarian cancer. A study conducted at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center found that ginger powder induces cell death in all ovarian cancer cells to which it was applied, ginger may slow the growth of colorectal cancer cells.
One study showed that ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and is a powerful natural painkiller. Muscle pain after sporting.

Ginger has long been used as a natural heartburn remedy. It is most often taken in the form of tea for this purpose.
It has long been used as a natural treatment for colds and the flu. Many people also find ginger to be helpful in the case of stomach flus or food poisoning, which is not surprising given the positive effects ginger has upon the digestive tract.

Research has shown that ginger may provide migraine relief due to its ability to stop prostaglandins from causing pain and inflammation in blood vessels.

In Chinese medicine, ginger tea with brown sugar is used in the treatment of menstrual cramps.

Prevention of Diabetic Nephropathy
A study done on diabetic rats found that those rats given ginger had a reduced incidence of diabetic nephropathy (kidney damage).

Ginger has an effect on blood clots that is similar to that of aspirin.
Denmark researchers have discovered that ginger can block the effects of prostaglandins. These are substances that cause inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain, which leads to migraines.

TEA
Though the results are still experimental, 1/3 teaspoon of fresh of powdered ginger taken when you feel a migraine coming on can help stop pain before it starts.

The ginger tea described above or 1/2 teaspoon of ginger is recommended by Danish researchers for arthritis relief.
By the same token, it appears that high cholesterol levels are lowered using the same active ingredient, thromboxane.

For motion sickness, upset stomachs, colds or headaches, steep about a teaspoon of chopped fresh ginger in a cup of boiling water to make a tea. Sip this tea before taking a trip to avoid motion sickness or during or after the journey to calm a queasy stomach.

If you have athlete’s foot, cool this tea and soak your feet in it. It’s anti-fungal property will ease the burn and itch.
Ginger tea is also said to reduce excessive perspiration, act as an aphrodisiac, and freshen one’s breath. (Not bad for the stem of a plant that grows underground).

As a mood enhancer, ginger’s cineole content may help contribute to stress relief.
So sipping a cold glass of ginger ale after a hard day at the office might be just what the doctor ordered. Just make sure the ginger ale you drink is made with real ginger.

(Some of today’s sodas are artificially flavored and will do nothing for you like ginger can.)
With all the benefits of ginger and continuing research, the ginger root is fast becoming another, very popular medicinal herb.

The essential oil (1 to 3% of the fresh rhizome) contains mostly sesquiterpenes, e.g., (–)-zingiberene (up to 70%), (+)-ar-curcumene β-sesquiphellandrene, bisabolene and farnesene.
Monoterpenoids occur in traces (β-phelladrene, cineol, citral).
The pungency of ginger is caused by a non-volatile resin containing the same type of hydroxyaryl compounds that are also found in other spices of the ginger family: Zingerone, gingeroles and shoagoles. The pungent gingeroles degrade to the milder shoagoles during storage; high gingerole content and good pungency thus indicate freshness and quality. Ginger is different from Kurkuma

Marijuana Increases Brain Cell Formation..!!!

How many times have you been hit with the usual jargon about how bad marijuana is for the brain, and how stupid you are going to become if you smoke it.
Yet, some of the most creative minds of our time attribute their unconventional thinking to the effects of this beautiful herb. So does it make you stupid, or does it actually INCREASE innovation?
Well according to a study conducted by the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, the effects of marijuana on the brain are everything but detrimental. Let me explain.
Professor Xia Zhang and some of his colleagues at Saskatchewan University decided to test a synthetic form of THC (HU210) on a group of test rats to observe the effects the drug has on neurogenesis (brain cell formation and generation). They gave these rats HIGH DOSES of the THC-like compound twice a day, everyday for a period of ten days to get a good idea of THC’s effects on brain cells.
It turns out, this synthetic THC-like compound actually INCREASED the rate of brain cell formation in the hippocampus (neurogenesis) by a whopping 40 PERCENT!
Not only did the rate of brain cell formation INCREASE, but the rats also appeared to be less susceptible to observable symptoms of anxiety and depression. The hippocampus is the area of a mammals brain that controls memory, learning, anxiety and depression. So it makes sense that increased brain cell formation in this area of the brain would prove to be beneficial for people suffering from problems associated with these brain functions.
Meanwhile, when you compare these POSITIVE neurological effects of marijuana with the neurological effects of other LEGAL recreational drugs such as nicotine and alcohol, you find that nicotine and alcohol actually DECREASE brain cell formation.
As an activist for legalizing marijuana, it is becoming a bit infuriating to see that such break-through discoveries are being ignored by the medical and legislative communities! Especially when you consider the countless detrimental effects of cigarettes and alcohol, which are sold freely in every store you can find.
This discovery actually explains why some of the most creative minds of our time have attributed their innovation to the effects of marijuana. With every new brain cell that is formed, comes the possibility of a new and interesting thought process, that can break the boundaries of what an individual was previously capable of.
The universities’ findings on the anti-anxiety qualities of THC also explain the peaceful nature of marijuana smokers, and now it is not so hard to understand why marijuana smokers have a “no worries” kind of outlook on life.
Now take a moment to think about how wonderful this plant really is! It is capable of providing clothing (hemp is the strongest fiber in the world), it provides nutrition (cannabis seeds contain the most concentrated nutrients found in any food)! It’s “main ingredient” THC has even been proven to be anti-carcinogenic, eliminating lymphatic tumors in test rats within two weeks.
On top of all of these wonderful benefits, it has now been SCIENTIFICALLY CONFIRMED that it indeed does increase creativity, reduce depression and anxiety, and promote peace.
